One of my favourite Blender addons. If you want to develop your own menus and operators (things that do stuff), and you know little about Python and Blender's bewildering API, then this is for you. Lots of "how to do it" tutorials available as well.

Great potential and very useful. For me it is quite a steep learning curve, but hopefully more community and developer instructional videos and documentation will be generated and the Addon will be improved as time moves forwards.

Using Photographer addon with Octane is a bit annoying because the DoF field doesn't work with Octane Camera. Accessing the Octane Camera settings requires a deep dive in the properties menu of the camera to the side.

5 minutes from installing this plugin and I was able to add all the DoF values from the Octane Camera straight to the Photographer n-panel.

That alone made it worth the $15.

Hey, thanks but could you let us know why that lead you to three stars? It would be helpful to know what you think we can improve

Amazing Addon, I'm a python developer and just started to learn the Blender Python API.
This sheds light on many things, as well as saves a lot of time fiddling with the api docs.
I'm using it as a learning tool, a ui creation tool, and a all out addon maker for smaller addons.
Loving it so far and can't wait for version 3.

I like the addon and it is perfect for simple to moderate addons. It needs more documentation for it to reach its true potential.

Absolutely love the addon. Never tried to dive deep into scripting outside of geometry nodes, Houdini and ue4, but serpens really sparked my interest. Wish there was couple nodes to make work with collections and layers easier. Like add, modify, delete etc. Other than that I absolutely love it. Thank you for this wonderful tool.

Joshua is definitely a master in coding, and the addon is a masterpiece. But I guess I am the only one who doesn't like it despite that. So here is why it's not for me:

    - It leaves code you usually won't write. Most likely, it's because it's automated or "compiled" from nodes, and there is no other way.

    - While the naming of the nodes makes sense if you are familiar with coding, there is no documentation of the nodes. In comparison, there is loads of information on the internet books and courses about Blender API. So if you are not familiar with coding, the nodes won't make sense. You can ask for support and do trial and error, but there is no book/documentation/course like there is for Blender python/API. Support is fantastic, but I don't want to go to support for every little thing.

So for me, it's simple: why not go straight and learn it the proper way. Otherwise, it's first learning Serpens, then learning how to code. You could think, "Serpens will teach you how to code," but I don't think so. You learn to ride a bike by riding a bike and coding by coding.

I also tried Serpens two years ago, but the same experience now.
I wrote more than six addons myself, two quite complex, so I should feel confident using Serpens, but it's not the case. Instead, it feels like randomly trying to connect nodes and hoping you got wiser. (Yes, there is the shift button to see the compatible nodes).

Well, that's pure my experience and it looks like I am the only one, so big chance it might be the tool for you. Everyone is enthusiastic about it.

Update: For Serpens 3 we now have documentation on the addon and every node (https://joshuaknauber.notion.site/Serpens-Documentation-d44c98df6af64d7c9a7925020af11233).
There is still code that you wouldn't necessarily write. As you said this is because we're generating it. Serpens addons aren't meant to be edited after they are exported but this is a tradeoff that seems reasonable for the ease of use. Complex addons (multifile addons) still make more sense to develop manually as you just have more control this way.
We had quite a few people that started to learn coding with Serpens, integrating scripts with nodes helps here too. If you prefer learning python on its own go for it, Serpens is just a tool to support making this easier.
